The ensuing 2 years of ranger and mage ragequitting was the only thing that saved the rest of the game, but boy did they try to hold onto their possessions like Taliban. What few meleers were left were made fun of for not switching.Īround 2007 someone wisened up and realized there were only 4 classes left in the game and hit the panic button. magex10 was the solution to every boss.Īnd the sickest part is that as meleers left, the game started to like it that way. Rangers refused to party with anything but other rangers. Meleers became pointless, and in the face of stress and challenge they became 2nd class citizens and dropped from the progression rosters altogether. The game became overrun by rangers and mages. Speaks volumes about the whole "there is no real disadvantage to melee vs range" argument, which is for lack of better words, insanely ignorant.įinal Fantasy 11 from its inception to 2007 is what happens when people who matter think like ranged fanboys. It's just mostly avoiding ground aoe's and that's about it.Īn honest perspective from a predominantly ranged DPS'er. That's as far as we've made it so far, but raiding as ranged, is incredibly simple for the most part. Grug: Everyone piles on top of each other in max melee range and everyone moves at same time, nobody is at a disadvantage. Pew pew until she dies, very simple fight.

Same mechanics for both melee and ranged pretty much, except for melee has to back away from King on the raid-wide aoe part, as you take more dmg the closer you are, but there is usually adds up during that bit so it's not a dps loss really.Įstrode: Pretty much an all ranged fight except for the tank. King/Prince: I vary which boss I'm on, but it's all fairly simple, just avoiding yet more ground aoe. Matron: Sit in place and pew pew, only moving when I get the debuff/add summon, and to step out of the ground aoe. Vladmal Prime: I sit in place and pew pew till he dies. Zilas: Ranged is insanely easy, you sit there and dps, and the only real mechanic that requires you move, requires everyone to move. Can't speak for our guys who stay at range, but it's fairly simple for me in melee, just avoid the ground aoe's and stay on his leg. I raid on my rogue, so I'll clarify what I can, from a ranged perspective. You have to be standing still to get the buff, otherwise it does nothing for you while you are moving. Didn't they take the mm/pyro ground effect buffs and make them self buffs instead so they can keep their mobility w/o losing dps boosts? Not heavily involved in those mechanics personally, maybe someone can correct me if I'm mistaken.
